Lavelle Fund for the Blind
A charitable grant-making foundation dedicated primarily to supporting programs that help New York State and New York City area residents who are blind or visually impaired live independent and productive lives.Visit website
LAVELLEFUND.ORGFlyleaf Creative began working with Lavelle in 2016, and in 2018 we were asked to reimagine how their website could more fully embrace their mission and the grantees they fund. We worked closely with their team to ensure folks (primarily their visually impaired grantees) could fully access the site, no matter how complex their vision loss.
The main components of our work have been to:
- Ensure accessibility of their brand and website for users with visual impairments
- Customize the website experience for those accessing grants
- Secure content on their site, such as grant-related materials, and make them exclusively accessible to board members

Ensure accessibility of their brand and website for users with visual impairments
- Design a fully-ADA compliant website, in consultation with an accessibility compliance expert, and employ tools to inform accessible color, design and UX choices; this includes a highly customizable accessibility menu to allow the user to change the website colors and text size according to their needs. The website is clearly designed and organized to outline the breadth of Lavelle’s work.
- Create a thoroughly considered visual identity that moves away from traditional foundation aesthetics to something more direct, modern and energetic.
Customize the website experience for those accessing grants
- Build an easily navigable grants page featuring customized filtering tools which allows users to explore the projects and organizations funded by Lavelle.
Secure content on their site, such as grant-related materials, and make them exclusively accessible to board members
- Build a password-protected “Board Portlet” that features a full archive of approved grants and supplemental grant materials exclusively for Lavelle’s board members to access
